We all start the New Year thinking of ways to be better, more engaged, stronger people.
We make all kinds of promises to ourselves and others; some of which we keep, and others fall by the wayside as the realities of life kick in.
The realities of life…. one of these realities is that unfortunately 30,000 out-of-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrests that happen each year, 85% of victims die. The good news is Sudden Cardiac Arrest can be arrested and the best chance of survival following an arrest is with the urgent use of a defibrillator.
So if your New Year resolution is to get fit by joining a gym, check if that gym has a defibrillator installed. Our story from May 2017 tells how Bob Harper, the Biggest Loser trainer, wont step foot into a gym without one after he was brought back to life with an AED at his gym.
Is your New Year’s Resolution to get a promotion at work? Be pro-active and ensure the building has an AED unit installed for you and your colleague’s safety.
Maybe you are thinking of becoming more involved in your community or sporting club. Does your Library, School, Netball Club or Leisure Centre have a defibrillator installed? These are all places where people of all ages congregate and the likelihood of someone having a SCA is high. Is your community rescue ready?
Maybe you are thinking of going back to study. Schools, Colleges, Training Centres are all places where an AED should be installed. Young people as well as the elderly are at risk of suffering a Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
Make your 2018 resolution a strong one. Check if the places you go have a defibrillator installed and if not, don’t wait til it’s too late – install a defibrillator now!
